David Tvildiani Medical University

A medical degree from Georgian college? Yes and we will speak about this particular college. David Tvildiani Medical University (DTMU) is a private medical university located in Tbilisi, Georgia. It provides a Doctor of Medicine (MD) program of six years duration, which is equivalent to MBBS in India. The program is entirely in English, and is accredited by WFME, WHO, ECFMG, and the National Medical Commission of India (NMC).

Since December 2025, Georgia's public universities have stopped taking new international students. This makes private institutions like DTMU the only legal route for Indian students who want to study MBBS in Georgia. The total six-year cost, including tuition and hostel, runs between Rs.42 lakh and Rs.55 lakh. DTMU also carries a strong FMGE pass record and a curriculum built around the USMLE exam pattern, which lines up closely with India's new NExT licensing test.

Here is the core information you need before you dig deeper.

Why David Tvildiani Medical University Georgia Matters for the 2026 Admission Cycle

Georgia changed its rules for international medical students, and this shift puts DTMU in a stronger position than ever.

The Minister of Education for Georgia, on December 3, 2025, declared that from the September 2026 intake, the state-funded public universities will no longer accept new foreign students. This move pushes domestic students into public universities and sends international applicants toward private, accredited institutions instead. Popular public choices like Tbilisi State Medical University and Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University are now closed to new Indian applicants. Private medical universities in Georgia are the only legal path left for NEET-qualified Indian students.

David Tvildiani Medical University Tbilisi was not built for this moment. It has operated since 1989, well before this policy shift. Academician David Tvildiani and Dr. Dimitri Tvildiani founded the school to teach medicine through hands-on training instead of the older lecture-heavy Soviet model. The university earned full university status in 2011. Because it was always private, DTMU's international programs continue without disruption. Its three decades of experience with foreign students give it an edge over newer private institutions rushing to fill the gap left by public universities.

Is David Tvildiani Medical University NMC Approved? Compliance Check for Indian Students

Yes. DTMU meets every requirement under India's FMGL 2021 regulations, the rulebook that decides whether a foreign medical degree qualifies a student to practice in India.

David Tvildiani Medical University Eligibility Criteria for Indian Students

Admission depends on your Class 12 marks, your NEET score, and your age. The bar is lower for reserved categories, in line with Indian government norms.

David Tvildiani Medical University MBBS Fees: Full 6-Year Cost Breakdown

Tuition runs on two tracks: a Standard Tier at $6,000 per year and a Premium Tier at $8,000 per year, which adds extra digital learning tools and administrative support. Both tracks require mandatory hostel accommodation for the first two years.

At current exchange rates, the full six-year cost lands between Rs.44 lakh (Standard Tier) and Rs.68.5 lakh (Premium Tier), covering tuition, hostel, and administrative charges together. Since fees are billed in US dollars, build in a 10% to 15% currency buffer across six years to absorb exchange rate swings.

First-year admin fees cover the practical setup every new student needs: Temporary Residence Card assistance, apostille translation of transcripts, bank account and SIM card setup, health screening, biometric registration and airport pickup.

Beyond tuition, students need a monthly personal budget of $120 to $215 (roughly Rs.10,600 to Rs.19,100), which covers phone and data, local transport, meals out, and basic entertainment. These costs are quite reasonable and hence a good option for MBBS abroad.

David Tvildiani Medical University's USMLE/NExT Aligned MD Curriculum

DTMU was the first medical school in Georgia to build its MD program directly around the blueprint. This matters because India's new licensing exam, NExT, tests clinical reasoning instead of pure memory recall - the same skill DTMU's curriculum trains from year one.

The program follows an ePBL (electronic Problem-Based Learning) model, accredited by EQAR in 2019. Students analyze real clinical cases in small groups starting in their first year, using US medical textbooks and Kaplan study material.

David Tvildiani Medical University's FMGE Pass Rate Track Record

Georgian medical universities post a national FMGE average of around 35.65%. DTMU has stayed above that average almost every year on record.

These numbers matter because FMGE (soon fully replaced by NExT) decides whether a foreign MD graduate can legally practice medicine in India. A university's pass rate is one of the clearest signs of how well it prepares students for real licensing exams, not just classroom tests.

Campus Life: Tbilisi vs Rustavi

DTMU splits its academic years across two campuses, and knowing this split helps families plan housing and daily routines in advance.
